Work With Us

Crustacean Compassion is a not-for-profit animal welfare organisation dedicated to the humane treatment of decapod crustaceans. We are a small team of animal welfare professionals, and our work is grounded in scientific evidence and ethical reasoning.

Despite our small size we are well-respected in NGO and political circles for our reasoned, determined and creative approach. We raise public awareness of the sentience of decapod crustaceans, work with food businesses to implement changes to their practices and we put pressure on the Government to make the necessary changes to the law. We have received significant public and political attention which has prompted widespread media coverage and are in regular engagement with relevant government departments.

Now is an exciting time to join Crustacean Compassion!
Our work has resulted in the UK government commissioning an independent review of decapod sentience, in particular their ability to experience pain, and the associated risks to their welfare from their use in industry.  The highly anticipated results of this review are due to be released in late 2021, and are expected to trigger widespread legislative change in the UK and beyond.  We are looking for creative, experienced and dedicated individuals to join our team and help us deliver our award-winning campaign and gain legal protection and humane treatment for decapods crustaceans.

Corporate Engagement Advisor

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Corporate Engagement Advisor.

It is an exciting time to join Crustacean Compassion. This role offers an opportunity to join our ground-breaking campaign and make a real and significant difference to the lives of millions of animals a year.  Our campaigning has led to the inclusion of decapod crustaceans to the definition of animal in the Animal Welfare (Sentience) Bill currently progressing through Parliament. The recent publication of the Defra commissioned LSE Review confirmed that decapod crustaceans are sentient and recommended their protection in law and changes to current practices within the food industry.

Working closely with the Directors and the Campaign Manager, and using our suite of animal welfare policies, you will help us develop our corporate engagement streams of work, provide advice, and represent the interests of decapod crustaceans across the UK.
